About the Author

Tom Avery grew up in Lewisham and trained as a primary teacher at the University of Greenwich. He taught in South London for two years, and then in inner-city Birmingham. He is now co-ordinator of English, Communication and Language at a primary school in Kentish Town, London. He loves working with young people, helping them to develop their interests and encouraging them to think about the world around them. The issues of street crime and unaccompanied refugee children, addressed in Too Much Trouble, affect the lives of many of the children he's met through his work. Tested ways to overhaul your financial life

I've always read Clark Howard's books and often refer to his web page, and this book does not disappoint.

It's 330 pages long, but it broken up into 14 topics. Each topic gives the story of 3 different consumers, the problems they faced, and how they overcame them. At the end of each story are bullet point financial tips and references to helpful websites.

Retirement
Investing
Energy
Living Below Your Means
Entrepreneurship
Travel
Family
Health Care
Working and Learning
The Empowered Consumer

One story was about "recycling" your home and using it differently. I live in a tourist center (San Diego) and have an empty room that I'm fixing up to rent out through a hostel site. I'll give updates on how that works out for me.

This book is so full of ideas and inspiration that it's worth a hundred times its price. Highly recommend.

I was disappointed in us. I enjoyed his other book about living large, but this was mostly a series of anecdotes and then a tiny bit of advice afterwards.

Clark Howard does it again! This time he shares success stories on America's Road to Recovery!

In CLARK HOWARD'S "LIVING LARGE FOR THE LONG HAUL" the book is American as it's Red, White, and Blue Cover. The book features many short American success stories that others have shared with Howard along his journey's in finding empowerment for the people. I believe sometimes as American's we tend to forget how great our company is and how being mindful, thoughtful, and thorough it can lead us to a fountain of success. In this day and age when some are frustrated or lost in a down beat economy, Clark shares with us stories of how to bounce back smarter than before. The Stories shared in this book such as Steve "the SOLAR SAVER" or "OFF GRID" are reminders on how we can be proactive towards savings while turning it into a profit. Some other stories such as "Around the World on a Dime" and Arthur Blank's midlife fire turned into a blessing are great reads too. The book is an easy read compared to some others and if you're looking for true experienced pointers on investing, housing, retirement or even your boomerang college kid, Living Large for the Long Haul is a must read. If you're looking to bounce back, smile or funnel other success stories into your own passion you have found the right book.

We've become a culture where everything and everyone overlaps somehow. Summations that once linked to a demographic, such as "rural," "suburban" or "urban," no longer seem to exist as they once did. Everyone is trying to survive somehow, including students who seem to be doing well but are secretly dying inside.

For this reason the authors put a new spin on the concept of what being urban means. Perhaps it's less defined by a living condition and more by a spiritual condition. Urban students need to know that someone has their back, including God himself. We play a vital role in meeting them where they are at and uncovering who God made them to be.

So why the word-play on being "urban" versus "unchurched?" Maybe we need to shock our brains into realizing how different things are today versus when many of us grew up. It's easy to feel like we have nothing in common with someone "from the streets," which requires us to become more of a missionary in how we reach them. Arguably, every student needs this from us - including the ones we feel are just like us. Thankfully, these authors effectively reveal philosophy and programming needed to lift the hood off the `hood in your own neighborhood.

In den sechziger und siebziger Jahren lieferten sich die Beiden einen Streit über ihre jeweiligen gesellschaftstheoretischen Konzepte, der unter dem Begriff ´Luhmann-Habermas- Debatte´ bekannt wurde. In Hinblick auf die Fragestellung erscheint daher besonders eine vergleichende Betrachtung beider Theorien interessant, die neben den durch die Debatte zu vermutenden Differenzen auch die weniger offensichtlichen Gemeinsamkeiten kommunikationstheoretischer Ansätze beider Wissenschaftler zutage bringen soll. Da eine Beschäftigung mit den Kommunikations-Theorien Luhmanns und Habermas´ im Grunde kaum losgelöst von ihren gesamtgesellschaftlich angelegten Grundkonzepten erfolgen kann, wird im ersten vergleichenden Kaptitel auf die den Theorien zugrundeliegenden zentralen Begriffe eingegangen, die einen ersten Einblick in die Hintergründe von System- und Handlungstheorie bieten werden und zudem die sich im Anschluss daran ergebenden Unterschiede kommunikationstheoretischer Perspektiven verständlicher machen sollen. In den anschließenden Kapiteln soll der eigentliche Schwerpunkt der Arbeit verfolgen, indem die Herangehensweise von Luhmann und Habermas an das Phänomen der Kommunikation im Detail darstellt und im Rahmen dessen auf Ablauf, Ziel, Aufgabe und Funktion von Kommunikation sowie auf das Konzept der Medien eingegangen werden wird. Besonders in der Rolle des Individuums im Kommunikationsablauf erscheinen die Ansätze der beiden Wissenschaftler sehr kontrovers, was im Verlauf der Arbeit näher untersuchet werden soll und gesondert in einem Kapitel aufgegriffen wird.
Hauptziel der Hausarbeit ist es somit zum einem in einer vergleichenden Untersuchung darzustellen, in welcher Weise sich die beiden Theorien dem Vorgang der Kommunikation nähern, als auch abschließend kurz auf kritische Meinungen beider Wissenschaftler einzugehen, die sich besonders im Vergleich zur jeweils anderen Theorie ergeben.

This is not Blackmore

There was no fine print, that I could see, that warned me that this version of Lorna Doone (with the cute cover picture of Amelia Warner from the BBC movie) is abridged. My first clue came when I opened the Amazon box to find that the book measures about 0.25in thick. Having just read the massively thick library hardcover (this one was for a gift), that seemed incongruous. It turns out that the text is "retold" by David Penn in "1400 Headwords." I'm rather frustrated that no one spells these things out in the book description. I guess I should start paying attention to the listed physical dimensions of a book before I order it. But who does that? And why should I need to?

If you just want a quick, easy read and are curious about Lorna's story, then by all means go for this book. But if what you wanted was R. D. Blackmore's classic, then keep looking.

About the Author
CHRISANTHI AVGEROU is Professor of Information Systems at the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. Her main interests concern the relationship of ICT to organizational change and the role of ICT in socio-economic development. She is chairperson of the IFIP Technical Committee 9 on Social Implications of Information Technology and she chaired the IFIP WG 9.4 group on computers in developing countries from 1996 till 2003. Among her recent publications are Information Systems and Global Diversity, and The Social Study of Information and Communication Technology: Innovation, Actors, and Contexts, both published by Oxford University Press.

GIOVAN FRANCESCO LANZARA is Professor of Organization Theory at the University of Bologna, Italy and Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science (Information Systems and Innovation Group, Department of Management). His main research interests are in the areas of organizational learning and design, ICT-based innovation, and in the evolutionary dynamics of social and political institutions. More recently he did research on the relationships between knowing and organizing. He is the author of several articles published in major international journals and currently co-authoring and co-editing a book on 'ICT and Innovation in the Public Sector' for Palgrave MacMillan.

LESLIE P. WILLCOCKS is Professor of Technology Work and Globalization at the London School of Economics, UK and Political Science, head of the Information Systems and Innovation group and director of The Outsourcing Unit there. He is known for his work on global sourcing, information management, IT evaluation, e-business, organizational transformation as well as for his practitioner contributions to many corporations and government agencies. He holds visiting chairs at Erasmus, Melbourne and Sydney universities and is Associate Fellow at Templeton-Green College, University of Oxford. He has been for the last 18 years Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Information Technology, and is joint series editor, with Mary Lacity, of the Palgrave book series Technology Work and Globalization. He has co-authored 32 books, including most recently Major Currents in the IS Field (Sage, London 2008 – 6 volumes), and Global Sourcing of Business and IT Services (Palgrave, London, 2006) He has published over 180 refereed papers in journals such as Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, MIS Quarterly, MISQ Executive, Journal of Management Studies, Communications Of The ACM, and Journal of Strategic Information Systems.
