About the Author
Jake Jaramillo is a former marketing executive who now volunteers as a backpack outing leader with the Sierra Club. Cathy Jaramillo is a former corporate finance executive who currently spends much of her time as President of the Seattle Audubon Society. The Jaramillos both love wilderness hiking as well as discovering new and quirky parts of Seattle, and their inspiration for this book goes back to many happy hours exploring Los Angeles with the classic Stairway Walks in Los Angeles by Adah Bakalinsky and Larry Gordon. The Jaramillos live in the West Seattle neighborhood.

Great resource for winter hiking or urban walks

I am a regular hiker who likes to walk and hike year round. In the winter months, when many of the trails are covered with snow, the days are short, and the weather is frequently rainy, it is great to explore different trails and walks in our urban areas. What makes this a gem of a resource is, in addition to 20 different walks to take in Seattle, are the references to interesting sites, historical notes, and ideas for places to eat or take a break. The walks are clearly described, and include references to additional weblinks. And you can even scan in a code and the directions will be on your smart phone if you don't want to bring the book. But the book is pocket-size, and includes clear maps, so I found it easy to carry. I look forward to exploring another neighborhood again soon.

Seasoned walker awed by book

I got this book for Christmas and have done about 1/3 of the walks. Over the past many years I have walked and biked every street in Seattle, but still found wonderful new destinations and challenges from these walks. The authors indicate which walks work for kids, but they work well for those of us in our second childhood who thought we knew every nook and cranny in the city. The book is crammed with history and fascinating facts about the city where I was born 78 years ago. Just finished a walk ending with a 200 step climb and am looking for the next beautiful clear day to attempt some of the more challenging walks on Queen Anne and Magnolia. This book is essential for what my doctor calls my mania for "urban mountain climbing." It should be enjoyed by all in good health.
