Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Wirtschaft und Industrie, Note: 1,3, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Fakultät für Sozialwissenschaft), Veranstaltung: Internationalisierung und Vergesellschaftung im Vergleich , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Entwicklungstheorien untersuchen die Ursachen der Unterentwicklung von Staaten der Dritten Welt. In der Debatte kristallisierten sich Mitte des 20.Jahrhunderts zwei Hauptströmungen heraus: Jene Ansätze, die endogene Faktoren als Ursache für Unterentwicklung von Staaten sehen und solche Theorien, die exogene Faktoren als Ursprung der Unterentwicklung sehen. Auf der einen Seite steht die von wirtschaftsliberalen Kräften unterstützte Modernisierungstheorie, auf der anderen die marxistisch geprägte Dependenztheorie. Beide Theorien umfassen jeweils zwei Dimensionen: Die theoretische Dimension versucht Unterentwicklung von Entwicklungsländern vor Allem auf wirtschaftlicher und politischer Ebene zu analysieren, die politische Dimension zudem Strategien zur Überwindung der vorhandenen Defizite auszuarbeiten.
In der vorliegenden Arbeit sind die Fragen zu klären, in wie weit die beiden Theorien die tatsächliche Entwicklung am Beispiel Brasilien wiedergeben und in wie fern ihre praktische Umsetzung selbst zur Entwicklung des Landes beitragen kann. Ergänzend dazu stell sich die Frage, welche Dimensionen die Theorien möglicherweise übersehen.
Daher wird eine Einteilung in drei Kernfragen vorgenommen:
8.In wie weit treffen Grundannahmen der Modernisierungs- und Dependenztheorie auf die wirtschaftspolitische Entwicklung Brasiliens zu?
9.In wie weit tragen die beiden Ansätze jeweils zur Überwindung der Unterentwicklung Brasiliens bei?
10.Wo stoßen Modernisierungs- und Dependenztheorien jeweils auf ihre Grenzen?
Zunächst werden die beiden Theorien vorgestellt und Kritikpunkte aufgezeigt.
Es folgt ein historischer Überblick über die Geschichte Brasiliens. Der Hauptteil der Arbeit befasst sich mit der Wirtschaftsgeschichte des Landes, anhand dessen im weiteren Verlauf die beiden ersten Kernfragen der Arbeit beantwortet werden sollen. Zur Beantwortung der dritten Frage wird neben der politischen und wirtschaftlichen Dimension auch die aktuelle gesellschaftliche Situation Brasiliens dargestellt und bewertet. Abschließend folgt ein Fazit.
